Q. How long does the tax exemption process take?
A. It takes us (BizCentral USA) 10-15 business days to complete the application package. If you’re not incorporated this will add additional time, as most states will take approximately 2-4 weeks to return your filed articles. The IRS typically averages approximately 4-6 months to approve your 501c3 status.
Q. What are the IRS & state fees?
A. To apply to the IRS for exemption, there is a fee of $400 if your organization’s annual budget is under $10,000 or $850 if you are over that amount. This is a onetime application fee. While the state fees vary on a state by state basis, most charge approximately $75 for filing the Articles of Incorporation.
Q. Why do I have to fill out so much information?
A. Most of the information listed on the steps page are process steps, resources, or for questions for specific types of charities and thus may not apply to you. We only need your help with the questionnaire for the moment and this will only take approximately 15 minutes.
Q. Who will help me with the application?
A. As soon as you submit your questionnaire you will be assigned a service consultant and he/she will assist you through the process to get you your tax exemption.
Q. How many board members do I need?
A. Three (3) is the minimum required for the IRS and most states. See Choosing A Board for more information on this subject.
Q. When will I pay the second payment for this service?
A. If you chose the payment plan option you will be billed automatically when your work is completed or in 30 days, whichever comes first. Completed applications will not be released to you until final payment is received.
Q. What if I get denied the exemption?
A. As part of our preparation service we guarantee IRS approval of your application. Occasionally the IRS may request additional information or clarification, and responding to such inquiries is included in our service. If you receive a communication from the IRS, please notify us immediately.
Q. What if I have additional questions or revisions after I receive the documents?
A. Your service consultant will spend an additional 15 minutes to discuss your questions, however because of our low prices and numerous clients any additional help will be billed at our hourly rate. Please refer to our terms for additional information.

Q. When will my exemption be effective?
A. If you’re applying within 27 months of the date of your incorporation, your exemption will be effective as of your organization’s incorporation date. If you have waited longer than 27 months, your exemption will be effective as of the postmark date on the application package.
