5 Social Media Management Tips for Small Businesses

As a small business owner you are well aware that social media marketing is an inexpensive way to promote your product, communicate with your current customers and attract potential customers. It allows you to engage with customers, answer their questions, provide them with information about your products and create content that generates value for them. A solid social media strategy plan is a must!

Why is Social Media Marketing So Important?

Social media has become a must for businesses big and small. With traditional marketing methods becoming more and more obsolete, social media is an effective and inexpensive way to reach out to customers, build relationships and create brand awareness.

However, with content marketing becoming the norm, customers expect to see interesting content when they visit your social media sites; they also expect to see a page that is updated often, where comments and questions are answered in a timely manner, and that has useful or interesting information for them to read.  For many small business owners, managing the business’ social media accounts can seem like a full time job itself, for this reason we’ve compiled a list of 5 time management tips that will help you manage your marketing efforts more effectively.

 5 Social Media Marketing Tips:

  1. Plan ahead

In order to post content that is truly interesting to your customers, you must plan ahead. Yes, it is easy to post “Happy Friday” on your social  accounts, however this type of post is not generating value for your customers. Dedicate a specific amount of time to determine the topics and information you want to share with your customers. Once this is done, plan out the frequency of your posts.

  1. Start Small

There are numerous management platforms out there, and even though you probably wish to have a presence in all of them, it is best to start small. Determine the platforms your customers and potential customers will most likely be on and focus your efforts on there.  It is better to manage one tool correctly, interacting with customers, than half managing 5.

  1. Set a time limit

When interacting on social networks it is easy to get distracted. In order to efficiently manage your time, set a time limit that you’re willing to spend answering customer’s comments and questions, posting information and updating your content.

  1. Be consistent

Customers expect to ask a question and receive a reply in a timely manner. Although you cannot be there 24/7 answering questions and comments, you can be consistent, ensure you reply to questions and comments within a consistent time frame. For example, set a goal to not let a customer go un-answered for more than 24 hours.

  1. Schedule your posts

There are several management systems and social media management platform systems that allow you to manage all social networks in one place and schedule your posts in advance; they then automatically release them to your platforms at the set time and date. Ideally you will be able to find a management tool that is right for your business and schedule your social medial posts in advanced.
