What is the good in having a website if the people who are searching for what you have, cannot find you; there is no good reason! That is why there is a thing called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a website through search engines in organic results. Usually, the closer to the top a website appears, the more popular it is and the more traffic it will receive; hence, this is where you want your small business to be. A website is found by search engines through many different factors, including; page rank, website traffic, incoming links, link popularity, link relevancy, keywords, rich content and a variety of other agents. Search queries, the words that user's type into the search box which contain terms and phrases best suited to your site, carry extraordinary value. Queries that relate to products, services and information on a website should be present in the variety of factors above. If a search engine cannot make a connection between the search query and the information on a website, the site will not appear in the results. So what search engines are we talking about here? - The largest and smallest alike. The majority of web traffic is driven by the "big boys" - Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask, but others such as AOL, HotBot, All The Web and Live Search are powered or crawled by the "big boys". So it is equally important to be considered "search engine friendly" by the top 100 search engines on the web. Research has proven that search engine traffic can make (or break) a company's success, especially if it is a startup of small business. Targeted visitors to a website can provide publicity, revenue, and exposure like nothing else. |
